Beans Poriyal
This is another wow dish learnt from my sister in law. Its Nagercoil special.It is delicious South Indian dish that hails from the state of Tamil Nadu. Poriyal is a traditional Tamil term used for dry vegetable stir fries that are seasoned with spices and grated coconut. This curry goes well with grated coconut gravy/ thengai araitha kulambu , Paruppu Kolambu and so on. The speciality of this dish is we use coconut oil for preparing it. The aroma was great when I tasted it. So I thought could share it with you. This poriyal is one of the tastiest dish. This recipe is very easy and simple one to make. It is also a popular accompaniment to the main course and is often served with rice and other dishes like sambar or rasam. Lets start the preparation.
Beans Poriyal
Equipment
- 1 Frying Pan
- 1 Closing lid
- 1 Spatula
- 1 Extral Bowl
Ingredients
- Beans – ½ kg
- Coconut Oil – 2 tsp.
- Mustard seeds and Urad dhal – ½ tsp.
- Onion Medium size finely chopped – 1
- Curry Leaves – 1 string
- Chilly – 1
- Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp.
- Kolambu Powder – ½ tsp.
- Grated Coconut – 2 tsp.
- Garlic Finely Chopped – 2-3 cloves
Instructions
- Firstly, place the frying pan and preheat it.
- Add 2 tsp. Coconut Oil to it.
- Now add ½ tsp. Mustard seeds and Urad dhal.
- Later add Bengal gram/kadalai Paruppu on to it.
- Saute for few minutes. Let the Bengal gram/ kadalai paruppu turns to golden brown.
- Now add finely chopped 1 medium size onion , 1 string curry leaves and 1 chilly on to it.
- Fry till it turns pale.
- Now add beans on to it.
- Fry for few minutes.
- Add salt on to it.
- Now add ¼ tsp. turmeric powder to it.
- Later add ½ tsp. kolumbu powder on to it.
- Saute the ingredients well for few minutes.
- Close the lid and let it steam for few minutes.
- Open the lid and check whether it is cooked .
- Note: If you feel like the veggies are not cooked you can sprinkle little amount of water on to it and allow it to cook.
- Then add 2 tsp. grated coconut and 3-4 garlic cloves on to it.
- Saute the curry well and allow the ingredients to mix well together.
- Again close the lid and cook for 5 minutes.
- Now the beans looks cooked well and delicious.
- Our yummy and spicy beans poriyal is ready.
