Curd Rice

Curd Rice or Thayir Sadam or Yogurt Rice is simple south Indian dish made with soft cooked mushy rice and curd mixed to it. Later it is tempered with our own spices, fruits and veggies on to it. I also added onion to this curd rice which tastes too good. Try it in home and let me know how it came out for you.

We can use raw rice and mix all the seasoning together to get great taste.

The tricky part is that the taste of the curd rice is depend upon how soft and mushy your rice is cooked.

Creamy curd rice with pickle is a perfect option for lunch. Spicy potato curry is also a good combination for curd rice.

It has many health benefits and it cools down our body instantly and great choice for summer season. It also acts as a stress buster and aids digestion which is high in probiotics and antioxidant.

Lets start the preperation for curd rice.

Equipment

  • Pressure Cooker – 1 nos.
  • Frying Pan – 1 nos.
  • Spatula – 1 nos.
  • Extra Bowl – 1 nos.

Ingredients

  • cup Rice  – ½ cup
  • cups Water – 4 cups
  • cup Curd – 1 cup
  • tbsp Oil – 2-3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • tsp Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • tsp Urad Dhal – 1 tsp
  • tsp Asofoetida – ¼ tsp
  • tsp Ginger grated – ½ tsp
  • Medium Size – Onion
  • nos – Green Chilly finely chopped – 2
  • string – Curry Leaves – 1
  • Handful – Coriander leaves
  • Small Size – Capsicum
  • tbsp Pomegranate – 2 tbsp
  • Grated Carrot – 1 no

Instructions

  • Place the cooker.
  • Add in well washed rice and water.
  • Close the lid and put pressure and cook until its cooked well.
  • In mean while place the pan.
  • Add 2-3 tbsp oil.
  • Add in Mustard seeds and Urad Dhal.
  • Allow the Mustard seed pop up well and Urad Dhal turn into golden brown.
  • Add on Chopped Onion and Chilly.
  • Let it fry well and turn into golden brown.
  • Add Coriander Leaves, Curry Leaves, Chopped Capsicum and Carrot on to it.
  • Mix well until its half cooked.
  • Now add on chopped ginger on to it.
  • Now add Asafoetida to it.
  • Mix well and keep it aside.
  • Now take the cooked rice.
  • Smash it well.
  • Add in 1 Cup Curd on to it.
  • Now add  seasoning to it.
  • Now add salt as required.
  • Mix well together.
  • At last add pomegranate to your curd rice.
  • Curd rice is ready to serve.

Notes

Pictorial Guidance:

Place the cooker
Add in well washed rice and water
