Tomato Thokku

Wow! this is another delicious dish. I am a great fan of tomato thokku. You could have this thokku with idly, dosa, plain boiled rice.

My mother in law used to make many varieties of thokku. It has a piquant taste whenever she prepares it.

I could say is one of her best for sure. She always prefers country tomato for all the tomato recipe as it gives rich taste to any dish you do with tomato.

I think this dish will definitely make your taste buds cheer.

Ok let’s start the preparation.

Equipment

  • Frying Pan – 1 nos.
  • Spatula – 1 nos.

Ingredients

  • 3 no’s – Onion
  • 5 no’s – Tomato Country tomato
  • 2 no’s – Chilli
  • Curry leaves chopped as required
  • Coriander leaves chopped as required
  • 1 tbsp. – Chilli powder
  • 1 ½ tbsp. – Coriander powder
  • 4 tbsp. – Gingelly oil

Instructions

  • Preheat the frying pan and add in the oil in it. Let it heat for a while.
  • Now add the mustard seeds and urad dhal on to it.
  • Let it pop up for a minute.
  • Next add the finely chopped onion into the pan.
  • Now fry the onion till it turns pale.
  • Then add the chopped tomato on to it.
  • And also add chopped green chilli on to it and start frying.
  • You can add salt to it so that your tomato will get smashed quickly.
  • Now move your ingredients around the pan with the help of ladle for a while so that it get smashed well.
  • When u feel that your tomato is smashed well, then add 1 tbsp chilli powder on it to.
  • Then also add 1 ½ tbsp. coriander powder on to it.
  • Now fry the ingredients well so that the spices got mixed well.
  • Fry well until raw smell goes from the dish.
  • At last add 2 tbsp. of gingelly oil on top of it and fry for a while.
  • Now you can feel nice aroma comes from your dish.
  • Now add in chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  • Now your aromatic tomato thokku is ready to serve hot.

Now fry the ingredients well so that your tomato gets smashed well.
Later add chilli powder to it.
Next add coriander powder on to it.
Now fry the ingredients well so that your spices get mixed well. Fry till raw smell goes.
Now add some gingely oil on to it and fry for few minutes until it gets good aroma.
Now add the chopped coriander and curry leaves on to it.
Close the pan with lid and let it be for 5 minutes. Yummy tomato thokku is ready to serve hot.
